Management of Iron Deficiency Anemia
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: The management of iron deficiency anemia (IDA) has garnered significant attention in recent years, particularly in understanding its complex mechanisms and treatment modalities. Literature Review: The literature also highlights the broader implications of ID in specific populations. For instance, (Cristina Fernandez-Jimenez et al., 2020) emphasizes the non-hematological manifestations of ID in menstruating women, which can significantly affect their quality of life. Furthermore, (Resál et al., 2021) address the challenges of managing IDA in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), advocating for increased awareness and the preferential use of parenteral iron supplementation in these cases. The relationship between iron, inflammation, and gut microbiota is explored by (J. Malesza et al., 2022), who advocate for personalized dietary recommendations alongside iron supplementation to optimize treatment outcomes. The significance of IDA in pregnancy is highlighted by (K Raut & M Hiwale, 2022), who call for more research into the safety and efficacy of IV iron in this population, addressing the underutilization of effective treatment options. Innovative approaches to iron supplementation are presented by (Jiang et al., 2022), who introduce a new chelated iron supplement that may enhance absorption and adherence. Lastly, (Rieg et al., 2023) examine the impact of IV iron on gut microbiota, raising important questions about the long-term implications of iron therapy on gut health. Conclusions: In conclusion, the literature reflects a growing understanding of the multifaceted nature of IDA, emphasizing the importance of tailored treatment strategies that consider individual patient circumstances, underlying health conditions, and the potential implications of different iron supplementation methods. Continued research is essential to refine these approaches and enhance patient outcomes in the management of iron deficiency anemia.
