Abstract

Background: Placenta previa poses a significant risk of postpartum hemorrhage, which can lead to maternal mortality. Key risk factors include advanced maternal age, multiparity, smoking, and a history of cesarean sections. Traditional management strategies encompass hemostatic balloons, surgical sutures, and uterine artery embolization. Methods: This systematic review adhered to PRISMA 2020 guidelines and analyzed full-text English literature published from 2014 to 2024. Editorials and review articles without a DOI, or those published in the same journal as the submission, were excluded. Literature was sourced from databases such as PubMed, ScienceDirect, and SagePub. Result: A rigorous three-tier screening process identified seven relevant publications for this comprehensive review. These articles underwent detailed examination and additional scrutiny. Conclusion: The findings highlight the intricate The Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology advocates for interventional treatments, including balloon occlusion, for placenta previa patients at high risk of hemorrhage. These approaches aim to mitigate bleeding, reduce operation time, and minimize postoperative complications.
