Abstract

Background: Uric acid has been identified as a significant factor in chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression and related comorbidities. This study aims to explore the relationship between serum uric acid levels and various health outcomes in patients with CKD and type 2 diabetes.

Methods: We conducted a systematic review of recent literature, focusing on studies published in the last decade. Data were extracted on serum uric acid levels, kidney function, cardiovascular outcomes, and mortality rates in CKD patients.

Results: Recent findings indicate a strong association between elevated serum uric acid and adverse outcomes in CKD, including increased risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality. The effectiveness of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors in mitigating these risks was also highlighted.

Conclusions: Managing serum uric acid levels may be crucial in improving health outcomes for patients with CKD and type 2 diabetes. Further research is needed to establish causal relationships and optimize treatment strategies.
