Abstract

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) presents a significant public health challenge, characterized by a progressive decline in kidney function and associated complications that can lead to end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) and increased cardiovascular morbidity. Literature Review: In their 2021 article, (Evans et al., 2021) underscore the low levels of awareness surrounding CKD, noting that this deficiency impedes timely interventions that could slow disease progression. The authors advocate for increased physician awareness and the implementation of evidence-based therapies to improve patient outcomes. This is further supported by (N Clements, 2022), who highlights the significant prevalence of CKD, particularly among individuals with type 2 diabetes. The molecular mechanisms underlying CKD are explored by (Frąk et al., 2022), who emphasize the necessity for early detection and intervention. Their findings stress that adverse outcomes can often be prevented with timely management, reinforcing the call for routine screening in at-risk groups. Lifestyle modifications and therapeutic interventions are crucial in delaying CKD progression, as discussed by (Alkhatib et al., 2023). The authors illustrate the impact of obesity and uncontrolled diabetes on CKD, advocating for a holistic approach that includes both medical and lifestyle strategies. Finally, (Arici et al., 2024) present a cross-specialty consensus on CKD management, emphasizing the need for accurate screening and the importance of addressing comorbidities such as diabetes and hypertension. Conclusion: In conclusion, the literature collectively underscores the complexity of CKD diagnosis and management, highlighting the critical need for increased awareness, early detection, and a multidisciplinary approach to patient care. The integration of various healthcare professionals, including pharmacists, and the emphasis on lifestyle modifications are essential components in optimizing CKD management and improving patient outcomes.
